Ascending from Perth, Western Australia, The Bures Band are the next best folky five-piece to get your fingers stuck into.

The band's latest single, "Pilot," traverses time and inspiration in a zeitgeist manner. Fashioning the late 1960s and early 1970s, "Pilot" captures the paradisiacal essence of soft rock and blues—as a mellow-hearted, sea-breezy track to enlighten a retro revival of sorts.

The song opens with a fiddly, finger-plucked guitar melody that leads to a gentle psychedelic groove of high-octane riffs and harmonized group vocals. Hopscotching between differing guitar textures, each band member infuses the collective sound with acoustic richness.

Their organic craft has a defining rawness that nods towards nostalgia. Reminiscent of the great Americana folk rock bands like Grateful Dead, Buffalo Springfield, and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, the boys of The Bures Band know how to transport the listener to feelings of the familiar.

Further supporting the band's journey into the archives, the music video accompanying “Pilot” was shot on a 16mm film camera. The way they create a peaceful halcyon dreamscape, The Bures Band make it hard not to fall in love with the retro aesthetic of the past.

A story of wanderlust is sung in the lines: "Seatbelt right another flight another day in the blue / Kansas to Mexico and back to the hotel for some news," as well as a playful spirit of freedom: "Race around the terminal to find Don's departing zone / When I'm in range call my baby if I pass a payphone."

"Pilot" follows the success of their 2023 debut album, Birds Nest—a tasteful concoction of ideas and melodies, a multi-paletted range of catchy riffs and harmonies. If you're a fan of other Australian-bred psychedelic groups, like King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard or Babe Rainbow, you'll be a fan of The Bures Band.

Full of wonder, joy, and an infectious spirit, The Bures Band is on the trajectory for takeoff.
